I Spit Lies was our first time in a “real studio”. It was a learning experience. If we’d known how little we understood of the recording process we might not have attempted to record this particular track. We had two days to record it and from memory we came in on the second day and scrapped the entire first day.
Tommy and I went to town on the overdubs while Patto avoided them as best he could. Despite there being no drugs involved I felt it was essential to record two separate tracks of gong and the sound of me kicking cymbals down the stairs.
In hindsight it could have been engineered better. The tape hiss is almost overbearing at times, when we took the raw files to Barry Stockely to mix he just shook his head.

Critter/Kritta was an afterthought. Recorded live quite literally on the last bit of tape in the very last minutes of studio time we had left after recording I Spit Lies.
The tape ran out in the last few seconds of Kritta and you can hear Tommy’s bass input crapping out. It was both a pleasant surprise and a bit of a kick in the guts considering how much effort the previous two days recording had been.

We released them as two separate CDR EPs via our own label (WeEmptyRooms). Critter/Kritta as a 3” CDR housed in an origami box which only Patto and his girlfriend knew how to assemble.
I Spit Lies as a screen printed book made using pieces of laminex cut to shape and sanded down as the cover.
Both were extremely labour intensive to make and thankfully I’ll never have to assemble another one of them ever again.

Drums/Bass/Bass High School Power Trio formed in 2002. Did some stuff, toured Japan, called it quits in 2007.
Two members went on to form Inappropriate Tough Guy Behaviour. Kind of reformed for a bit but then inexplicably stopped again. All three are still mates though.
Jem now plays in DEAD. Patto now plays in Wicked City and TTTDC. ... more
